Farmers Market Sussex County Farmers Market at the Fairgrounds The NEW JERSEY STATE FAIR® Sussex County Farm and Horse Show was established by the local agricultural community. The Sussex County Fairgrounds was established to house this annual event. The Fairgrounds draw over 200,000 visitors annually. The Fairgrounds owes its growth to countless volunteer hours, efforts and community support. Those efforts and much hard work continues to power New Jersey’s largest agricultural Fair and has allowed the Fairgrounds itself to become a venue of choice for a wide array of All Season family events. So it only makes sense that that the Fairgrounds become home to one of the few markets housed in a permanent building. Additional web sites of interest:
The Sussex County Farmers Market at the Fairgrounds will be starting its season on April 16th. Open every Saturday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm through October 29th, this market is one of the few in New Jersey housed in its own building. Located at the main entrance to the Sussex County Fairgrounds on Plains Road in Augusta, the market building is easily identified by the beautiful barn quilt painted on its side. The design, called Country Roads, brings the viewer into the center with a leading line of blue, gold and green lines (or roads) – much the same way as the county welcomes visitors. This market is operated by Sussex County farmers selling both fresh and value added products. Everything is Sussex County grown or Jersey Fresh! Products include: seasonal fruits and vegetables, berries, grass-fed beef, pork and lamb, eggs, honey, poultry, flowers (bedding plants, perennials and dried flower arrangements), alpaca fiber and products, fresh farm cheese, wine, baked goods, value added products including jams, jellies, salsa, pickles and more, and fresh and potted herbs. Fresh products vary by the season, so you may need to visit each week to get the most choices! Remember, since this is all Jersey Fresh, fruits and vegetables won’t be immediately available but there will be an ample selection of many, many locally produced items. Events upcoming at the Market will include a great tractor display by the Sussex County Antique Engine Club, cooking demonstrations utilizing Jersey Fresh products, continuing education by the Sussex County Master Gardeners and many more treats. Check the market blackboard for event dates when you stop by!
